My commitment to you
If you pay me for energy advice then I am committed to making sure there is at least one of the following benefits for you in the long term;
reducing your greenhouse gas emissions in a cost-effective way
reducing your energy use
greater thermal comfort in your building.
I do not make false promises about “huge savings on your fuel bill”. Not in a time of unprecedented fuel price inflation. What i will do is give you a realistic appraisal of any impact of energy saving measures on your fuel bills, taking into account rising fuel costs. I don’t promise you quick fixes.
Working with me will give you:
Clarity on where to begin
Confidence that you are taking the right actions for your building
Cost-effective use of your money and resources
Carbon savings by implementing the right measures and monitoring their effectiveness.
You’re ready to take action to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions. My advice packages will help you make the right choices. If you’re considering investing money in the energy efficiency of your home, then I recommend the on-site packages.

Terms and conditions and my promise to you
If you pay me for energy advice then I am committed to making sure you benefit from one or more of the following:
- reduced greenhouse gas emissions
- reduced energy costs
- increased thermal comfort in your building.
Most people who work with me will save money. I will be open with you about whether I think you can save money through energy saving. If I don’t think you will save money, then I will tell you as early as possible.
I do not believe in making false claims about saving money through energy efficiency. I care about my reputation too much to mislead my clients.
In a period where fuel prices are rising by well above inflation, with no end in sight, anyone who makes exaggerated promises about saving money on fuel bills is unwise. What I will do is show you how to mitigate the impact of fuel price rises.
I am unable to give refunds once you have paid. However, my promise to you is that I think you are on the wrong package I will tell you. If I think you’re not going to recoup your investment in my time and expertise then I will tell you, as early as possible, and advise you to scale down to the most appropriate package for your needs. This includes after we have started working together. If this happens then I will recalculate your price and change your subscription or make refunds if necessary.
The above prices assume you have one site. Prices for householders are for homes with a floor area of fewer than 300 square metres. If your home is larger than this then I will let you know of any additional charges before we start. If you are a business with more than one site then I will give you a bespoke quote. Prices for small businesses and non-profits are for businesses with fewer than 100 employees. If you have more than 100 employees please contact me for a bespoke quote.
Where the price includes a site visit then it includes travel time if your home or business is within 50 miles of Birmingham, UK. If you are more than 50 miles from Birmingham then I will charge you for mileage at £0.45 per mile in both directions. If you are more than 100 miles from Birmingham then I will need to charge you for subsistence, in which case I will agree the rates with you beforehand. Where possible I will combine visits outside of Birmingham to reduce the need to travel and to save money. For example I have a number of clients in London, and it is often better to stay overnight and see two or more clients on successive days. Where prices include thermal imaging then this is dependent on the time of year. Thermal imaging is best undertaken after dusk between November and March. If you request thermal imaging outside of these times of the year then I will contact you to discuss when would be the best time to do the thermal imaging survey.
Where thermal images are taken then I may use them for learning or publicity purposes. Your personal details will not be identified. Please let me know if you would prefer me not to do this.
Please note that this is an advice and guidance service, and my advice packages do not include detailed design services (unless otherwise stated) such as detailed heat loss calculations, designs of heating systems, renewable energy systems or insulation measures. I can provide such design services if you wish, however once you have decided that you are interested in such measures then I prefer to signpost you to reputable installers (I do not take a commission from them as I am impartial) who will do the detailed design work for you. I do offer an optional handholding service, should you need me to help interpret quotes or designs.
If we decide to work with each other than it’s because we have worked out that we can trust each other. If you are paying me more than £2,000 then I will propose a brief contract of engagement. Here are some terms and conditions:
- Fewer than 250 employees
- One site
- Within 50 miles of B12 9AH
If you have more than one site then depending on the size of the sites, there may be an additional charge.
If you are more than 50 miles from my office base in Birmingham (B12 9AH) then we will discuss travel and subsistence costs at the outset.
If at the outset we agree that your greenhouse gas emissions are likely to be significant, then there may be an additional charge. For example:
- You are using energy for industrial processes
- You have a fleet of vehicles.
I am a sole trader and I’m not VAT registered. I may sub-contract work to Sharon Goodwin (making appointments, admin) or Claire Campbell (research and admin) but responsibility for the advice I give you is all mine.
